Rings on a chain
Since the first time Darren took a business trip, when James was but a wee thing and the trip was perhaps 3 days, paper chains have been used to mark the passage of times too long to measure here. And we are passing one of those times now. Everyday, “I can’t waaait to see Auntie Megan.”
“Count the rings.”
“7 days.”
“Umm, I think you’ve torn off too many rings. “
“There’s only 7 rings left. We go in 7 days.”
“It doesn’t work like that. You can’t just tear off as many rings as you like and then we go.”
“Ummph.”
It was easier at the wee one age.
In the meantime, school books have been put aside in favor of finding leaves and using them for area and perimeter, doing coordinate graphing Thanksgiving pictures in the (futile) hope that it will douse his zeal for Battleship (James, no one wants to play with you if you keep looking at our ships!), building a model pilgrim house and a wetu (“we already did this” “Damn you and your good memory, that was years ago, we didn’t even live here.”), art projects, getting through, counting down, tearing rings from a chain.

Ahhhh…it’s almost Thanksgiving, eh?? I guess now I’ve come up with something new to be thankful for. Kids who don’t cheat at Battleship (I’d have to flog ‘em!!!)
It seems that happens, things get easier as they get older for some things and in other things, not so much. Just to clarify, the temp here was -10 C so it wasn’t too cold, about 25 above for you. Of course you probably don’t get that cold there anyway. It is not so bad, you get used it, just like the heat.
hehe like Dawn’s comment … it wasn’t too cold only minus 10!
I received a mysterious package! I am wrapping and placing it under the tree
OOoo Battleship!!!! I loved that game!
“There’s only 7 rings left. We go in 7 days.”
“It doesn’t work like that. You can’t just tear off as many rings as you like and then we go.”
“Ummph.”
You know, that’s really clever.
Too bad it doesn’t actually work
that way.
My family will cook this year. And we are not traveling.
The kids at work love playing Battleship, but it got put away for awhile… they cheat. And get mad.
love the updates ~ need to get battleship. Lucy will totally cheat.
Well, I’m going to have to climb up in my closet and get my battleship game down. We haven’t played it in a long time. I don’t think Baby Boy cheats, but perhaps he’s so good at it that I don’t notice.
That James is a clever one. Ripping off the chain links . . . it’s too bad life doesn’t really work that way.
I’d have chains all over the house. Some chains would get links torn off prematurely while others, well I’d just keep adding more and more links to those . . . like the Baby Boy goes to college chain. I’d add about a hundred links a day.
