Brief Update on Us
After try #3, we finally got James’ H1N1 shot today. This was our 3rd visit (ever) to the County Health clinic. Hopefully, it was our last, if his normal Dr. gets the vaccine in for his 2nd shot in a month. The first time, I was too late to get it (hours wise) and I asked if there was anything special I needed to know. No, just the hours. The second time, I was told the were only giving out 20 shots a day and I should have gotten there at 7:30 (1/2 an hour before they opened). I may have been a wee bit unpleasant, something about not mentioning that six days earlier when I was there. This time, I had an early morning Dr.’s appointment, so Darren took him down, got there just before 8, I went to my Dr.’s appointment. As it turned out, they got the regular shot in (previously it was just the mist) so they had a larger supply (luckily, because they were #22). Three hours later, James walked out vaccinated. 3 hours for 22 people to be vaccinated! And yes, it was 1 person per number, not one family. This does not bode well for public health care (of which I am a supporter, but seriously).
I (by I, I mean Darren) sent out the books this Monday. No notes or anything, for which I apologize, but I really wanted to get them in the mail.
My camera is back. The lens’, a fancy one, motor broke. We discussed whether to replace the lens with a cheaper one or repair it (yes, the repair was that expensive). We decided to repair the lens and buy a lens hood for it. Apparently, a lens hood protects against damage (and all this time, I thought they were just for filtering light). I’ve always kept a filter on it, but I’m upping the protection now.
My printer and my washing machine are staging protests. Apparently, this is the breaking time in my house. I know how to fix the washing machine (aren’t I handy?), but I’ve requested a new printer for my birthday and I’m wishing on many stars that our current one lasts that long. I have a friend whose printer died and so she’s writing things by hand. I shudder at the thought.

Wow, seriously with the “breaking time” in your house! I hope everything is easily fixed and/or replaced.
I still write by hand and transcribe later. It gives me something to do at the playground (although I discovered that the playground is a wireless hotspot, so I’ve been bringing my computer… But I TRY not to do that too often).
Whoa Nellie…by hand??!! I shuddered right along with you on that one!!
I love writing by hand. It is romantic!
Our public health has been handing out so many vaccinations we are running out! Oh the joys.
eeps on the lens. Hope the hood helps!
What is writing by hand? Do you mean . . . with a PENCIL!!! Don’t be so gruesome.
I don’t allow anyone in my family to participate in such shameless shenanigans. I guess because all of us have the most terrible handwriting ever.
I refuse to even edit Baby Boy’s writing assignments until presented typed double-spaced. The last thing I need is one more headache from deciphering his chicken-scratch. Which I guess is my own fault because I introduced him to a lap top way before introducing him to a proper paper and pencil. Poor child.
I hope everything gets fixed. I hate breaking season. It comes around here every other year or so . . . it so sucks.
We aren’t getting the shot or not so far. Last week our province decided to have the lineups for shots open to all groups stressing the high risk groups should go first. There were many who thought they should go despite not being in a high risk group thus causing great difficulty for those in those groups. The line ups took 4-6 hours. They went through so many people the province ran out of vaccines. They shut down the clinics and reopened them on Thursday for 6 months to under 5 year olds, then the next day to pregnant women. Next week they will open it to other high risk groups like people under 65 with asthma or heart conditions. Then in a couple weeks it will be open to the public again. Lots of people in our area have already had the flu so they won’t be getting the shot either.
I hope you get all your broken things fixed.
