Ramblings or what we’ve been up to

It seems that the older James gets, the busier we get. Exponentially. Knowing a small amount about math, this is likely to either cause a completely destruction of the universe or will have to stop at some point. Any preferences out there?

Amazingly, still compared to others, our schedule is not that full. How is it possible that the universe has not ended yet?

So, in the past couple of weeks, we have seen two plays (If you give a Mouse a Cookie and The Velveteen Rabbit, both very different and good), James has Roots and Shoots, which started with a bang (meeting during the week and weekend field trips,  but is settling into weekly meetings), basketball, and an art class, not to mention friends over, surviving the flu, a football game, and, oh yes, school.

We’ve been studying astronomy; it’s been going quite well and will be it’s own post, hopefully sometime next week.

We have four field trips planned in the next couple of weeks, and of course, the much anticipated, Halloween.

In crazy story of the week, a local school has decided that the kindergarten students are not ” socially and emotionally developed” enough for . . . recess (kids are getting hurt, not seriously, kid stuff), so they now return to their classroom after lunch. This is not a full day kindergarten. A friend of mine has two kids at the school, neither kindergarteners, but one, reasonable, mother, has started a campaign to attempt to reverse this decision. Because, you know, 5 year olds aren’t ready to play, but they are ready to sit.

OMG! No recess for 5 year olds. Someone needs to smack them. How silly.

    Oh, yes.

Older means busier . . . then burnout . . . then you go no where . . . then you get bored silly . . . and you try to just do a “little bit” . . . which turns into “Ooohhhh that would be fun too” . . . which leads right back to square one.

Ask me how I know. ;-)

I cannot imagine school without recess that is insane!

Weird how our lives get busier and busier. Wait I keep breeding that may be why :P

I can’t believe they’re keeping those little people cooped up the whole time they’re in school. How sad. And are parents screaming? I sure would be.

Do you have a link to an article about it?

    My god.

I couldn’t find any articles. The information I had was from a parent from the school and most of the activism so far has been e-mail based. I’ll let you know if it makes it into the papers or gets resolved.

FOUR field trips coming up?? You seriously need to join our friendly competition, dearie! And seeing as how I still haven’t had a chance to visit Ireland, Italy, or Germany…one of my lifetime goals, my vote goes for NOT destroying the universe…at least not quite yet. ;)

Wow. That’s some odd logic. 5 yr olds ready for school but not for play. There’s a lot I could say about that but won’t….We are busier than usual right now too….field trips, swim lessons, co-op classes, scouts….compared to a lot we are home bodies. I couldn’t imagine adding more.
