A change of direction

I have more about Maine to say, but I’m moving on. Perhaps I’ll come back to it, or perhaps it will slip through the tendrils of my mind.

I have spent the past week, and the past two days intensively, getting ready for school. The main thrust of my venture has been to catalog my (mostly) children’s books on Librarything. For those of you unfamiliar with Librarything, it’s a database allowing you to enter, tag, and “store” your books. If you have 870 children’s books (subtract for some knitting books and curriculum books added that are not children’s books, add for some children’s books that have inevitably slipped through my fingers in this cataloging process), this is a blessing and a curse. Now, when I wish to cover a certain topic, at the touch of my fingers, I can retrieve a list of the books I have on said topic. Now, the depth of my illness is clear.

When Darren, having removed James from the house for the entire day yesterday, discovered I was still not done this morning, asked how many books said child had the conversation went something like this,

720 books! 720 books! over 100 books for each year of his life!

“I’m not done yet,” quietly.

“I have more books than you, I have more books than you,” sung, while prancing around.

Funny!! I don’t think we have nearly that many, and DH often comments on why do we need that many books? I want my children to be able to find a book to interest them at any given time ;)

Oh I LOVE library thing, and I don’t have nearly that many books.

No wonder we’re such good cyber-friends. I like to surround myself with people who make me feel just a little bit better about myself, LOL.

I’m just joking. James is one lucky little boy. I think books are the greatest gift you can give a child, other than all-day-every-day-unconditional-love. And of course he already has that!

WOW! I am so telling J, so that he never gives me the eye for buying yet another book (just got another one today hehe)

No wonder you never use the library! hehe

I was reading an article on the history of the children’s library the other day it was interesting.

I have never heard of that site. Interesting.

We have so many books I can’t imagine entering them all. The thought makes me tired before even starting.

    You have been so busy!

Ahh…the book cataloguing thing that taunts me at every turn. I have 4 children older than your one; I will let you do the math. I am starting to have trouble counting the number of shelves with books. Good for you getting them catalogued.

I haven’t even started with dealing with school. I really need too. It is closer than I realize!!!! ((((SIGH)))
