The Family
So, the main focus of our trip was for a family reunion (the first annual
). And there were nerves surrounding this as well, family, for a week, in one house? There’s a reason we moved out right? But we had a great time.
My sister did all the arranging and she did a great job. James was quite pleased by the on location lake and swings, not to mention attention of 7 adults (does it get any better than that?). The house was big enough that we could all give each other some space, with lots of outside play spaces. And there were tons of figurines in James’ room, mostly they looked like old Happy Meal toys, but he is often happy with two sticks, one good and one bad, so this was awesome.
I love being able to spend time with my niece and nephew, both one-ish (the nephew having just turned and the niece turning tomorrow). Since my sister lived out here, and has visited, we have a relationship with Mia, but have only met H (I’m not sure how my brother feels about private info on the internet, so I’ll keep it private) once before. Mia and James were like magnets, but it took H a while to warm up to us all. Being an introvert myself, I can respect that decision. However, he does love the camera (again, you’ll have to take my word), turning these big blue eyes in the direction of anyone who had a camera. After a couple of days of hiding behind my hair and letting him crawl on my on the floor, I became fun. As soon as James pulled out his DS, he was a star. I was quite impressed with James’ patience with both the kids. He not only genuinely wanted to play with them (the scary time; please be gentle) but he was kind and patient, even when they mauled his DS.
All and all, a wonderful trip.

The house sounds beautiful and James sounds like he took in all in stride like the champ I know he is!
YAY for quality family time. I had no doubt that James would be amazing with the babies!
I had a blast too. James is SO mature, SO patient, SO wonderful… All that modeling is paying off…. And, sorry again about having to change in the closet for a week and the small with a capital “S” bed!
Looks like you all had a great time. I love the picture of the kids in the little pool. We have only had one family reunion and it was not anywhere where kids could play. I think that would make it so much more fun.
How wonderful it is for him to have cousins and be so good with them despite their young age. I am sure they will have many close moments with each other as the years go one. Glad you had a good family time.
