3-D chalk: Magic or Gimmick
At park day yesterday, I brought the activity for the kids. So, I brought packages of 3-D chalk (look for it at a store near you, sold as two toned chalk with polarizing 3D glasses), two kinds of 3D glasses (polarizing, like they give out at amusement parks, to see the 3D movies and the “old fashioned” red blue kinds), and regular chalk. I asked the kids to find out if you needed the special chalk or if you could use regular chalk, the special glasses, or red blue 3D glasses.
Survey says: regular chalk will become 3D, with regular, red blue glasses (now on sale at Target, at least here, in the dollar spot with a dinosaur book)! Who knew! Warm colors paired with cool colors work best. We found that hot pink with purple worked really well. Although one of the older girls drew a hot pink can (regular chalk), no other colors, and when you put on the 3D glasses, it split into two colors, a dark purple and a pink.
This kept about 15 kids, ranging in age from 3-13ish happy for an hour or more, not to mention the adults who kept grabbing the glasses to take a peek, and even the chalk from time to time. I highly recommend checking it out!

That sounds so cool! We will totally be looking for it up here (I miss Target!!!! AHHHHH! Love free heathcare and uber (almost scary) friendly people)
Great idea!
Oh, that sounds awesome.
I LOVE all things 3D. Our IMAX theater is literally my favorite place for field trips.
Luckily those movies are usually educational and when they aren’t, we just pretend. LOL.
I got KB some here while back and it kept my kids busy for about a week. Now it sits in the corner waiting to be played with.
Just came back from target with the chalk and glasses! We’ll give it a try this week, thanks for the suggestion!!!

That is very cool. I had never heard of that before. I don’t think my kids would go for it now, but you never know.
Oh, I can’t wait to try this! There are so many “artistic” toys and gadgets out there now, but most of them don’t really require a lot of creativity. This sounds like something the kids could become lost in, and be creative at the same time.
