Strong willed
Jamie and I were late (about 7 minutes) to a nature club event yesterday. Since I was supposed to be leading it (i.e. I had the pots, the soil, the seeds, the paint), our absence was noted. Jamie hadn’t really cooperated in leaving and I decided to take the freeway; if I had taken surface streets, we would have gotten there on time. Anyway, I made our excuses and heard sympathetic murmuring of how strong willed Jamie is. Perhaps it is simply because some people (like those who know me) would accuse me of being strong willed myself, but I do not consider this a quality that deserves sympathy. Not that there aren’t times that it isn’t inconvenient; there are times it’s inconvenient to be altruistic, to be kind, there’s even times it’s inconvenient to be smarter than the average bear. Looking at the news today, you don’t hear too many people remembering Rosa Parks saying, “Oh, her poor mother, she must have been really strong willed.”
More notes on Jamie’s amazing memory. He told me Sunday morning; “Last week I had a flower and I dropped it and it was chja chja so Baba gave me a a star and we were at the property.” So, when he added the “we were at the property” I realized he was talking about jello jigglers we had at a picnic at the property Spring 2004! He wasn’t even 2! How is that possible? Anyway, he wanted to make more jello jigglers, which we hadn’t had since then, so we did.
On a lighter note, I informed the contractor yesterday (darn those strong willed people) that I will be moving into the house no later than Dec. 15th (a birthday present to myself) and when should I schedule the floors to be installed. He said “Dec. 1st.” So, I’m planning on being relocated in 6 weeks. Check back to see if there’s any significant swearing on that date.
